Mission Statement

Taag Studios & Gallery is a community of creative individuals, built by and for Iowa City artists. Our goal is to support one another through peer reviews and open discussion of each artist’s portfolio, while maintaining a nurturing and open space for artistic practice, education and presentation.

Our organization is built on community – a community of artists helping other artists and making art accessible to the public. Taag Studios is pleased to offer affordable studio space to aspiring and established artists. We collaborate, critique and support each other in our creative endeavors. Artists in our community get a unique opportunity to present their work to the public through gallery space, private showings, and the encouragement to teach classes through our learning center or participate in a community service project. Call or visit to see how a supportive environment can work for you.

Gallery space use is available to our artists as well as participation in quarterly art show events. Artist contribution from art sales are expected to be 25% of sales, rather than the average of 50% charged by most galleries. The 25% commission goes towards upkeep for the gallery and promotions in the future.

Renovations

Some of the studios and teaching areas are undergoing renovations to allow for better use of space.  We plan to have renovations complete within the month. We are excited!

Future Plans

Many people have inquired about welding facilities, so good news, it is in the plans! It is our goal to have a welding shop built in about a year. We understand the need for welding and a taller space for sculptures. So take heart welders of Iowa City and the surrounds, we do plan to have the welding studios as well. Keep checking back for updates.

Scholarship Program

Taag Studios realizes some families in the community are unable to afford art classes for their children. We at Taag and Art Expressions wish to make our classes available to these children through a scholarship program. Those who qualify will be provided with all materials needed and either a reduced price for classes, or free classes. If you would like to have your child participate in an art class or program, but cannot afford tuition, please contact the office at (319) 855-4755 for information on how to apply for the scholarship program.  Children ages 5 years to 17 years, are eligible to apply for the program.
