Taag Studios and Art Expressions is pleased to offer scholarships for kids whose families would otherwise not be able to afford art classes. Please contact the office at (319) 855-4755 if you would like to apply for either a full or partial scholarship for your child(ren). Scholarships cover all materials needed to complete art classes.

Children's Mixed Media with Art Journaling

This class is designed to teach the basic techniques of oil painting. Oils are a traditional medium used by artists over the centuries and are still a favored medium today. I begin with acquainting students with materials, and letting them know what is essential, and what is optional. Students will then be taught how to use the materials, how to apply paint to a canvas, and how to blend colors to portray light, shadow, line and space. UPDATE: Class closed. This class is a continuation of the Oil Painting for Beginners. We will continue learning techniques and address problems, allowing the artist in you to further develop your own style preference and improve skill. In this class you will produce complete paintings, along with a wider set of practice exercises to increase your skills. This class is for those who have either completed Oil Painting classes or have previous oil painting experience. Bring your supplies and canvases.

This class is designed to teach the basic techniques of painting with acrylics. I begin with acquainting students with materials. Students will then be taught how to use the materials, how to apply paint to a canvas, and how to blend colors and to portray light, shadow, line and space. We will also explore other techniques such as impasto to further allow the imagination to create.

We will begin with exploring some possibilities with making sculptures from textiles and fabrics. and creating support structures. We will also experiment with techniques, and learn how to use textile hardeners. Classes at Taag Studios/Art Expressions.

Drawing the figure is captivating and challenging. Often the figures inhabit the landscapes and scenes we so enjoy in our paintings. We will begin by drawing the basic figure proportions, showing movement and foreshortening. We will continue on with a sense of place, shading and value to discover the form. Meghan will demonstrate in pencil, charcoal, and conte. Models will be provided. MUST BE 18 or OLDER TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS.

This class will teach multiple mixed-media techniques with acrylic paint, demonstrated and practiced in an art journal. Completion of small canvas or wood art piece during each class session. Parents are welcome to sign up with children to share in their child’s fun and learning. All materials provided.

If you would like to improve your writing skills through instruction and critique, sign up for Writing Workshop. Learn the elements of good writing while getting supportive feedback in a group. Will my class get you a Pulitzer? I have no idea. Will it get you more followers on your blog? Higher grades on college papers? A better chance at snagging an agent? Probably. All classes must be paid for prior to confirmation of registration. If you need to pay via check/cash in person, our offices are also located at 1041 Arthur St, Ste D.
